Over 2500 school girls get free sanitary pads

Six months down the road, the campaign was able to realize 2,646 sanitary towels, which have since been distributed to different girls in 16 schools around the country.

A total of 2,646 school going girls across the country have received free sanitary pads to help them in managing their menstruation while at school.

In December last year, Hope Nankunda, an educationist and adolescent counselor, also  the team leader  Health promotion and rights watch Uganda, launched  a Go Fund Me campaign aimed at mobilizing sanitary towels for the vulnerable school girls.

Six months down the road, the campaign was able to realize 2,646 sanitary towels, which have since been distributed to different girls in 16 schools around the country.

"Some girls, in rural  schools, face a number of challenges related to menstruation and in most cases, they are forced to miss school some days every month, or even drop out of school, due to lack of sanitary pads," Nankunda said.

Some of the schools that benefited from the campaign include schools in the districts of Bushenyi, Kampala, Wakiso, Kayunga, Maracha and Sheema, among other districts.

Some of the contributors to the campaign included Afripads Uganda, Lohana Community Kampala, Rainbow International School Uganda and Mt. Muhavura hiking event were 300 sanitary pads were realized.
