What's going wrong for ex-Africa junior champ Negesa?

Things appear to be going horribly wrong for former Africa junior champion at the 800m and 1500m Annet Negesa!

Six years ago she had the world on her feet when she became a double gold medallist at the Africa Junior championship in Gaborone, Botswana. But all that is now water under the bridge, with Negesa struggling to beat primary schoolgirls.

Negesa had an underwhelming performance at the Kyabazinga Track and Field Athletics Championships on Sunday. She was beaten flat by a trio of schoolgirls led by an 11-year old over 5000m. Nabirye Saluwa had scant respect for the former World Junior bronze medallist whom she beat at the distance.

Saluwa clocked 18:53.9 ahead of Pamela Changwony (19:01.3) and Stella Naigaga (19:38.1) for the top three positions.

To Saluwa's coach Noah Muzira, there were no surprises here, the girl can only get better.

"I tested this girl in Tororo and foresaw a champion in the making," he said after the Kyabazinga Championships.

Negesa, 25, with a personal best of 1:59.08 over 800m and 4:09.17 in 1500m took time off the track in recent years to become a mother. She has since struggled to regain her form which was largely based on speed and endurance.
