Nkozi Hospital seeks sh2.8b for accident ward

The hospital needs an accident unit because of its proximity to the Kampala-Masaka high way, where they receive 15-20 accident victims a week.

The towns of Kayabwe and Nabusanke on Masaka highway were graced by crowds of people who took part in the Nkozi Hospital Marathon.

 

As early as 7:30am on Saturday morning, cheerful participants had already taken to the roads. The weather as friendly; not hot, but not cold, as more than 10,000 runners hit the road and hundreds of onlookers filled the road shoulders.

The event was graced by none other than the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, whose arrival in a helicopter caused more excitement and attracted more people.

 

However, notably missing was the Emannuel Cardinal Wamala, whose presence had been anticipated earlier. He was represented by the retired bishop of Moroto, Henry Ssentongo.

Notable among the runners were Masaka bishop, John Baptist Kaggwa, Vicar General of Kampala, Msgr Charles Kaisibante, Wakiso district Chairman, Matia Lwanga Bwanika, Entebbe Mayor, Vincent De Paul, Nkozi University vice-chancellor, Fr. Maviiri, Masaka Woman MP, Mary Babirye Kabanda.

 

Sister Teddy Nankyanzi, hospital administrator, said this was the first time a marathon was organized. She said the emergency ward needs about sh2.8b.

Nankyanzi said the hospital needs an accident and Emergency unit because of its proximity to the Kampala-Masaka high way, where they receive 15-20 accident victims a week.
