A 75-year-old woman murdered

Police in Rubanda district are investigating the circumstance under which a 75 year old woman identified as Maritia Kamuntu was murdered. Kamuntu a resident of Kagunga village, Rubanda district and was murdered on June 13.

According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional Police spokesperson, the incident happened at around 11pm where killers broke the deceased's door and found her sleeping and there after they hit her head with a blunt object.

"The deceased's body was taken to Kabale regional referral hospital before being handed over to the relatives for a decent burial as inquiries into the matter continue. Police haven't yet known the motives of the killers," said Maate, adding that the deceased was living alone in the house.

Although Maate could not suspect the cause of the deceased's murder, he asked the locals to always seek help from relevant officers to settle their grievances other than taking laws into their hands. He noted that whoever is behind the old woman's murder must be brought to book.

He also added: "It's unfortunate that she has been murdered but people must desist from living a lawless life. Whoever has any information that could lead to the arrest of the killers should give it to Police."
