Although still eligible for another term, Prof John Ddumba Ssentamu, the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University (MUK) has said he did not reapply for the university's top job.

Explaining his move in an interview with the New Vision, Ssentamu said he came to the university with the intention to serve for only one term, irrespective of the age amendments the current search committee made for persons eligible for the job.

"I was also surprised when I learnt the search committee had amended the age limit. But then again I did not want people to think I could have influenced the process," he said.

Ddumba is still open to the option of going back to the College of Business and Management Science to lecture and also write books for publishing.

"I can always go back to my college as a professor and get involved in consultancy work. I am also still the chairman of Centenary Bank and will wait for any opportunity that may come," he said.
