Namilyango win Ball Games I Rugby 15s

Namilyango, Ntare and Kisubi will represent Uganda at the East Africa Games in August.

SCHOOLS' RUGBY


KABALE - Namilyango College emerged the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Associations (USSSA) Ball Games I Rugby champions by defeating surprise package Ntare School 20-03 in the final played at NTC Kabale grounds in Kabale on Saturday.

Mark Osuuna scored two tries and Joseph Oloya added one, with Henry Kisitu making two conversions to give Namilyango their first national title in five years.

They started entertaining the Kabale fans, who in turn made a mockery of the game they had watched for the first time.

The two finalists will be joined by St. Mary's College, Kisubi who beat Mbarara High 23-12 for third place, to represent Uganda at the East Africa Games due in Gulu, Uganda in August this year.

 

In girls' soccer, holders Kawempe eliminated favorite Kibuli SS with a 2-1 quarter-final win to reach their 15th consecutive semifinal set for Sunday against newcomers Uganda Martyrs who beat Bishops  Mukono 3-2.

In the other quarter final, Mukono High beat fancied St. Noah 2-0 to set up a semifinal date against Gadaffi who needed a 4-3 win on penalties against Dynamic SS.

In girls' basketball, defending champions St. Mary's Kitende reached their sixth consecutive national final following a 36-32 semifinal win over newcomers St. Noah and will meet rivals Buddo SS, who beat Kibuli SS 40-38 in a tense semifinal at hosts St. Mary's College Rushoroza courts.

In boys' hockey, Ntare School beat City High 3-1 to emerge the champions with 13 points, after holders Kakungulu Memorial were shown the exit for using ineligible players.

Ntare will be joined by St Charles Kasasa and Namilyango College to represent Uganda at the East Africa Games.

The girls soccer semis and finals and the basketball final will be played Sunday (today) before the official closing ceremony and awards giving at Kabale Municipal Stadium.
