Makerere to fundraise for construction of student centre

The project will start in two years and will be completed within a year

 

Makerere University is set to construct a one stop students' centre through the university's Endowment Fund (EF) that will also lay a foundation for resource mobilization.

The students centre according to Dr. Martin Aliker who heads the Fund, will include a students' information centre, state of the art auditorium with a 2000 seating capacity and wall of fame, conference facilities, cafeterias, internet kiosks, memorabilia shop and book shop.

Others are recreational/ sports arena (pool, chess, table tennis and gym), entertainment and social areas and banking halls.

To kick start the fundraising drive, a 'run', is scheduled to take place this Sunday (May 14) with over 10,000 participants comprising students and alumni.

It is under the theme, 'Road to Financial Sustainability'.

Dr. Florence Nakayiwa the director planning and development department at Makerere said because the project requires a substantial base of money, it will start in two years and will be completed within a year.

She said the centre will also commemorate the 100 years of Makerere.
