Uganda now favourites for U16 chess championship

With the Zone 4.2 Youth U16 team chess championships now reduced to three countries( Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania), chances  are high that team Uganda will top the table in the 2017 champinships that started on Sunday in Mombasa, Kenya 

Uganda who earlier hoped to face teams Egypt and Kenya were relieved when countries; Egypt,Burundi, Djibouti,Eritrea, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan and  Sudan failed to show up for the championships.

The Ugandan side will now look at Kenya as their only threat in the tournamnet. Captain Veronica Denise Butuungi will lead her team.

Butuungi told Newvision that her teammates have got all it takes to take on their competitors at the nine day Championships.
 
"Team Uganda has got all it takes to put up a solid performance," said Butuungi.

Young stars Marvin Bagonza, Edgar Ampaire, Pauline Biyinzika and Alicia Bwenge are the other teammates to represent the country.
