Dhamuzungu takes the reins at Uganda Hockey Association
Mar 27, 2017
She plans to tackle limited resources and development structures in the sport
A new order has been established in Ugandan hockey as Lydia Sanyu Dhamuzungu became the new head of Uganda Hockey Association following Saturday's elections at the UOC secretariat.
The Weatherhead star beat off competition from Joachim Namala Wandera and Susan Khainza from Wananchi and Kampala respectively to secure the four year term.
She amassed six from the twelve votes that were cast as Namala and Khainza managed four and two votes respectively.
Saddam Hussein interestingly won the organizing secretary position by a coin toss! He had tied 3 votes with Weatherhead's Aisha Kagere and hence a coin became the tie breaker. Saddam retained the position.
The sport continues to suffer in terms of limited resources, sponsorship gaps, limited development structures and these are the key areas Dhamuzungu is planning on focusing her efforts.
It should be underscored that the outgoing chairman, Dunstan Nsubuga chose not to seek re-election. He was at the helm of Ugandan hockey since 2011.
Gerald Kirema, Daniel Kyaligonza, Joshua Opolot, Stephen Kasenge, Kenneth Tamale, Micheal Nashimolo, Stanley Tamale are other new faces in the administrative ranks.
