Saturday morning rains devastate Entebbe Road residents

Residents of Lufuka, Kirimanyaga in Zana along Entebbe Road highway in Makindye Sabagabo municipality in Wakiso district were distressed by the Saturday morning heavy down pour.

Barely a month since the rainy season started, some communities   in water prone areas    have started   experiencing   the impact of floods.

Residents  of  Lufuka, Kirimanyaga   in Zana  along  Entebbe Road highway  in  Makindye  Sabagabo municipality in Wakiso district  were  distressed   by the Saturday  morning  heavy  down pour.

Affected   communities  attribute the problem  to  blocked  drainage  channel  by developers  who   took advantage of the  recent  prolonged  dry spell to refill soil  in area  wetlands    that contained  water channels.

Moses  Lugolobi a resident  Lufuka  Zana  said  the  the  Makindye Sabagabo  Municipality  has not done enough  to  control  illegal  dumping of soils in wetlands.

"Illegal strucatures in wetlands are mushrooming without any action of by the municipality enforcement and engineers. The main drainage channels along Entebbe Road are on edge pending overflowing," said Lugoloobi.

Emmanuel Ssempala  Kigozi, the  municipality MP  said  they are still  challenged by  capacity  to  work on roads  and  drainage  channels.

During the  recent  village meeting  in  Namasuba -Kikajjo  zone Kigozi said  Uganda National Road  Authority  (UNRA)  should  come out  and rescue some  roads  mainly those directly   connecting  to the Entebbe  highway  to ease traffic  flow.

He said once such roads are improved, they will reduce the current traffic congestion along Entebbe road.
