Holders Wananchi are likely not to defend the Rockets Open, club officials' confirmed.

It is indeed a situation of waiting which way the wind blows as the two top local teams are thinking of reorganizing and resting their players who endured a fruitless campaign in late December last year in Kenya during the Africa Club Championships.

"We must resolve some internal issues and re organize our teams as we think of the future and at this point we really don't have the urge to participate in the Rockets Open and it shouldn't surprise people if we don't participate" said Joshua Opolot, chairman of Wananchi Club.

The two Wananchi sides claimed both the Men and Women categories in the inaugural edition last year.

Meanwhile, the event which saw two headstrong companies; Super Sport and Crown beverages might find a life line in Monash Liquids and bar soap limited that are likely to spell out their sponsorship package Friday.

"We have struggled to get other sponsors after Supersport and Crown beverages pulled away but we are hopeful Monash Liquids will step in to help" said Michael Nashimolo, Rockets club president.

Super sport had promised a sh5m sponsorship deal ahead of the tournament but because of the changes in the dates, there was some bit of uncertainty about the event which forced them to withdraw from the tournament and so did crown beverages who were yet to spell out their official sponsorship package.

The event is a season opener and all the teams in the National league are expected to participate except Wananchi whose presence at the two day meet remains a mystery.
