The couple has been embroiled in domestic disputes for a long time

Grief last evening engulfed the residents of Okile village in Amusia Parish, Omodoi sub-county in Katakwi district following the murder of a 43-yr-old woman.

Perpetua Idepit was allegedly killed by her husband, George William Opus, 48, of Amusia town while attempting to shell groundnuts for preparing a local delicacy known as Ecomai without his consent.

Peter Okwi the area LC1 chairperson confirmed the incident adding that it occurred at around 6PM when Opus returned from drinking alcohol.

Okwi described the incident as unfortunate, adding that it's the first of its kind to happen in the area.

Speaking to New Vision, George William Opus Opupu one of sons to the deceased, said they were not at home when the incident happened.

He added that his parents have been embroiled in domestic disputes for a long time. Family sources reveal that the deceased has left nine children behind.

Joseph Osire Enyaku the Amusia parish councillor condemned the incident calling on married couples to restrain from using violence as a means of solving family disputes.

Peter Oduko the OC station Katakwi Central Police Station said the suspect was arrested in Omodoi while trying to flee.

Oduko said domestic violence in the district is on the rise and attributed it to high alcohol consumption rates and suspicion of infidelity.
