Dr Joseph Serwadda calls for a new paradigm shift in Uganda’s politics anchored on reconciliation and dialogue.

KAMPALA - The Born Again Faith leaders have asked the ruling party and the opposition leaders to drop resistance and defiance words.

Calling for a new paradigm shift in Uganda's politics anchored on reconciliation and dialogue, Dr Joseph Serwadda said slogans like resistance and defiance will keep the country in an endless circle of violence and turmoil.

The ruling party (National Resistance Movement) has the word resistance in its name and the Forum for Democratic Change's Dr. Kizza Besigye campaigned on the slogan of defiance and has since continued to ride on it in his political activism against President Museveni who he accuses of having stolen his victory in the last presidential election.

"2016 has been an election year and we have now learnt that Ugandans take political matters rather seriously. The political scene in our nation continues to be combative and reveals a camouflaged disdain from the opposition, for whatever comes from government.

"We urge the nation's citizens to forget what is behind us and cultivate new ways to work for the common good and live peacefully with our neigbours regardless of their political convictions," he appealed.

"The country is increasingly getting fed on an unprecedented menu of obscenity through selected songs freely playing on the radios and televisions as if there are no state agencies to curtail such content," said Dr. Apostle Joseph Serwadda.

He made the remarks while giving his end of year message and briefing on preparations for Namboole Passover festival which starts tomorrow at Namboole stadium.

"As Malcom X said, the media is the most powerful entity on earth because it controls the minds of masses. As a nation we became what we hear and see and that is predominantly determined by what is featured in the media including songs, plays, films and other categories of media content," he elaborated.

He noted that Uganda wriggles in filth and dirt as print media continues to soak its customers in pornography and unashamedly gets bolder by the day.

About the Namboole Passover, he said there would be donating of items like soap and clothes for inmates in Luzira prison and donating of blood including himself who will be donating blood for the 31st time in his lifetime.

About the year 2017, Serwadda said it had been revealed to them that people who would invest in commercial farming would get a lot of wealth.

Referring to President Yoweri Museveni's declaration of 2017 as a year of family and his earlier plans to set free over 1000 prisoners as part of jubilee celebrations, Serwadda once again appealed to the president to release those prisoners who had scheduled to benefit from his prerogative of mercy.
