Teach children culture of saving - Gen Wamala

Dec 19, 2016

"We have successfully taught our soldiers why and how they should save and we have started seeing the fruits."

BOMBO - The Chief of Defence Forces General Katumba Wamala has called on soldiers to instill the culture of saving into their children so as to build a better future for their welfare.

Katumba was addressing soldiers' children and their mothers at Bombo UPDF headquarters during a Toto Christmas and end-of-year-party which he organized for them in partnership with New Vision's Toto Magazine and other companies.

"We have successfully taught our soldiers why and how they should save and we have started seeing the fruits. Now I want them to talk the culture down to their children," said Katumba.

"This party has been organised to offer a cheaper opportunity for the children of the soldiers to have fun because most of our soldiers can't afford taking their kids to these parties at Lugogo or Kololo," added the CDF.

Katumba said that soldiers have a chance to meet and have fun but their children don't, and that's why they have organised for them such a moment.

He thanked New Vision for the partnership and sponsorship.

Later he was joined by Toto Magazine editor Auntie Jovita and they cut a cake before serving to the cheery youngsters and their parents.

Children entertained the CDF and their parents by miming songs and dancing traditional pieces of different tribes.

Meanwhile Gen Wamala has assured Ugandans of tight security during the festive season, because of the partnership UPDF has made with Uganda Police.

"Of course the 'Kifeesi' (notorious city gang) will always be there but we are not seriously upto dealing with them."
