Dec 12, 2016

Kinavudori scores an injury-time winner as UCU Lady Cardinals overcome Mutesa Royal University.

MUKONO - Uganda Christian University Lady Cardinals FC beat Mutesa Royal University FC 2-1 in the FUFA Women Elite League on Sunday in Mukono.

Jackline Nakasi and Maureen Kinavudori scored for Cardinals while Sharon Namatovu pulled one for the visitors.

Having suffered defeat against Kawempe Moslem FC in their previous game, the hosts were keen on reversing their misfortunes this round. Indeed, they started strong in the opening twenty minutes, forcing the visitors to defend in numbers.

It took them 25 minutes to find the opener when Nakasi headed home her second goal of the season from a cross to give Cardinals the edge.

It means she has scored two goals in twice as many games played so far.

Mutesa leveled matters eight minutes before half time when Namatovu dipped over the goalkeeper after poor defensive clearance.

Second half was joyless, with either side creating no more than any significant chances. The hosts though appeared the more aggressive side.

No wonder the winner came in injury time as Cardinals skipper Kinavudori collected a through pass from Nakasi and slotted home.

For Kinavudori, it was her fourth goal in as many games this season.

The league goes into the break until further notice.
