Use month of rosary for soul searching - Ssekamaanya

Oct 10, 2016

"I have seen many young priests who helped the old people to return to God."

The Retired Bishop of Lugazi diocese, Matthias Ssekamaanya, has asked Catholics to use this month of the rosary for soul searching.

He was preaching at Queen of Peace Shrine Kiwamirembe-Kajjansi in Wakiso district, where hundreds of Christians gathered.

At the same time Ssekamaanya pointed out that some people are obsessed with earthly things, including rebel priests, without naming any.

"The love for money has derailed the purpose of God's mission. Some priests promised to respect their leaders but because of money and earthly things, they end up going astray."

The clergyman alluded to the Luganda proverb ‘omwana omubi avumya nnyina' which translates as ‘a bad child tarnishes the mother's image'.

Ssekamaanya asked parents to always be humble to their children even if they do wrong, cautioning them to desist from barking at them and punishing them severely.

"Parents, raise well the children God has given you, stop barking at them, punishing them badly like these ones we see in newspapers and other media. The way you raise your children matters a lot and sometimes end up damaging those kids.

"What they need is just counseling rather than beating them - as if not a normal person - which has caused many to lose their lives."

Besides rapping men who abandon their parental duties, Ssekamaanya was also critical of the corrupt in the society.

The Catholic Church dedicates May and October as the months of the Holy Rosary, during which believers recite the rosary and commit the prayer.
