Record entry for JBG Golf Open in Entebbe

One of the most sought after golf tournaments on the Entebbe Golf Club calendar, the JBG Open this year is featuring a special category for the seniors.

Senior golfers above 55 years are among a record 190 golfers including a field of 30 professionals, who registered for the 19th edition of the sh120m sponsored event.

The professionals, playing for sh15m, are engaged in a 54-hole contest over three days and teed off, with defending champion Herman Mutaawe playing alongside Opio Onito and Gerald Kabuye; ahead of the stable ford full handicap format of play-subsidiary tournament that is going to be played under the theme; ‘connecting people and sustaining life' on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference during the launch Gauff Engineering Managing Director Emmanuel Mugamba said one of the major projects the company was carrying out was about water, the reason they came up with that theme.

Entebbe Club executive member Marvin Kagoro said the tournament had gained a lot of popularity and regional recognition and that they had received overwhelming numbers for this year's event which has a number of exciting events and prizes for the golfers.

Entebbe Club Chairman Twinemanzi Tumubweinee was grateful to the sponsors for helping in maintaining the club and urged more ladies to join the sport.

"This is very important for the future and it's always a pleasure to be part of this milestone where we build society. We hope this is the best way to keep people together through sport," Helmut Gauff the company's senior advisor said.

Entebbe Club customised trophies, golf kit and several other prizes await the different category winners.
