The Ministry of Education has directed School management committees to work with parents to devise means of feeding students in their respective schools.

The acting Director of Secondary School education Lyazi Nsumba revealed that starting next term, parents shall take on the responsibility of feeding the children because they cannot attend classes with empty stomachs.

"Without lunch, we're suffocating our education system; an empty stomach cannot sustain the brain," said Nsumba.

He said school administration, school management committees, and boards of governors have to ensure that students are fed.

He also said that government will continue paying teachers and ensuring that schools have the necessary infrastructure.

Nsumba made the remarks while opening the secondary school leadership congress of students sponsored by Master card foundation and Brac Uganda.

The communications officer of BRAC, Grace Ssenoga said that the leadership congress is aimed at imparting ethics in children on how to behave in society.
