Amuria's district councilor representing Apeduru sub-county has called on government to expedite elections for LC1 chairpersons.

According to Paul Esogu, lack of LC1 chairpersons has delayed implementation of government programs and especially operation wealth creation in most sub-counties in the district.

Esogu, while specifically citing the operation wealth creation program, explained that people from some villages without LC1s cannot benefit from the program simply because they can't access a signature from the local leader as part of the requirement for the government program.

As Esogu explains, some of the LC1s who exited have shifted to neighboring districts, while others have absconded from work, leaving a wide gap in service delivery.

The last LC1 election was conducted in 2001.
