Man found with buffalo meat, cannabis arrested

A man in Rubirizi district has been arrested after being found with about 400kg of buffalo meat and marijuana (cannabis).

Arkanzelo Ndazarirahi, 57, was detained during an operation to arrest poachers in parts of the region.

Together with Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) officials, local police patrolled Kyambuzi village, where they sealed off and later searched Ndazarirahi's home.

Rubirizi DPC Ahmed Hasunira said they also found wires (snares) and spears inside the suspect's home, which they believed he used to kill the animal. Horns were also found.

He added that they also found marijuana being grown illegally at his home.

The suspect is charged with four counts: illegal entry into a conservation area, illegal possession of wildlife products, being in possession of devices capable of injuring and killing wildlife and being in possession of illegal drugs.

Ndazarirahi remains detained at Rubirizi Central Police Station as investigations continue.
