Policeman shoots student dead during Premier League match

The incident happened during the English Premier League match between Arsenal and Liverpool

A student died after he was shot by a police officer during a scuffle involving of students of St Mary's College Rushoroza in Kabale Municipality.

The deceased has been identified as Allan Ntunguka a senior five student from Nyaruhanga Parish in Ikumba sub county, Rubanda district.

The Kigezi region Police spokesperson Elly Maate said the deceased was shot by Police Constable Job Musawo attached to Rushoroza Police Post.

He said that it happened during the English Premier League match between Arsenal and Liverpool at around 6:30pm and 7:00pm.

According to Maate, senior three students entered the room where the match was being televised and decided to occupy front row seats, some of which were already occupied by senior six students resulting in the scuffle.

The teacher on duty called Police to calm the situation and in the process a stray bullet hit Ntunguka in the right shoulder.

He was rushed to Rushoroza health centre IV where he was referred to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Maate said that after the incident Musawo took off and Police is hunting for him to answer charges accordingly. 

He also described the incident as unfortunate, calling on students to desist from acts of hooliganism.

Maate also called on Police officers to be extra careful while conducting such operations to avoid loss of lives.
