Government promised to rehabilitate the site last year but nothing has changed

The management committee of Nyero rock paintings in Kumi district is dissatisfied with government's delay to rehabilitate the historical site.

Moses Olupot, the vice chairperson management committee said that government promised to rehabilitate the site last year but nothing has changed since the pronouncement was made.

According to him, the government's delay has made people to lose trust in the activities of the management.

Olupot added that people in the community are now advocating to be allowed to carry on with the activity of quarrying on counts that the rock is of no benefit to them if left to be used for tourism.

Olupot is however optimistic that the historical site will be the country's revenue-earning base for the tourism sector in Uganda if rehabilitated.

He urged government to devise ways of equipping the site with necessities to boost tourism in the district.
