He will concentrate on improving their skills including tackling, rucks and game reading

Newly appointed U-19 boys rugby national team coach Brian Makalama is impressed with the boys' response to training in preparation for the Rugby Africa U-19 1B tournament due August 22-29 in Madagascar.

Makalama made the remarks on Tuesday evening after training with the team at Legends Rugby Club.

"Yes we need time to be at that required level, but I'm happy that the boys are eager to learn and are responding positively," Makalama stated.

"Today we went through basics which are key to the boys at this level because fitness is not much a necessity at this stage," Makalama explained.

He promised to assemble a good team to represent Uganda in Madagascar despite time not having enough time to set up a strong team.

"We need like three months to build a strong team, but we shall assemble a good team by August 22," Makalama stressed.

He also explained that he will concentrate on improving their skills including tackling, rucks and game reading which is their challenge.

He is assisted by Dennis Etucket, Benjamin Temper (Strength & Conditioning Coach) and valence Bizimana (Team Manager).
