The Crested Cranes are eyeing a place at the 2018 edition of Africa's premier women's football competition

After inactivity since 2013, the Crested Cranes found it hard to compete in a friendly match against Kenya in a 4-0 defeat in Kisumu on Sunday.

From the onset of the game, the Crested Cranes conceded following mistakes that resulted in two converted penalties.

The first goal came after goalkeeper Fatuma Matovu handled the ball out of the box and was sent off. Reduced to 10, the team failed to recover.

For coach Majidah Nantanda, the result was just a gauge for various football competitions that have since laid the foundation for women's football in Uganda from the grassroots.
