Candidates shortlisted for the position of Vice Chancellor of Kyambogo University are expected to face the search committee for interviews Tuesday.

Last week administrative staff at the institution called on the University council to expedite the process of finding a substantive vice chancellor, saying that the search committee has not been transparent in its work.

"We appeal to the serving council to speed up the search process before the end of this financial year, and before the council retires," said Jackson Betihama the chairperson Kyambogo University Administrative staff association.

Betihama said that the acting vice chancellor Prof. Eli Katunguka is doing a great job, but his hands are tied on taking certain decisions, because he is not substantive.

Nonetheless, in an interview, Prof. Patrick Mangheni, the chairperson of the search committee said the committee has completed the preliminary processes of shortlisting and interviews are scheduled to happen soon.

"We are only part of a chain of things that happen, but our report should be ready within a very short time. And following the University's history, the committee adopted a closed policy, so as to avoid controversy," Mangheni said.

He thus declined to reveal the names of the shortlisted candidates, on grounds that the committee reserves the right at any moment to revisit the shortlist.

However, a source close to the committee said that interviews are scheduled for Tuesday; and that five candidates were shortlisted.

They include the university's acting vice chancellor Prof. Eli Katunguka, Prof. Aaron Wanyama the former dean faculty of science at Kyambogo university; Prof. George Byaruhanga-Bazirake, the dean faculty of science at Kyambogo university.

Others are Makerere University Business School's Deputy Principal Prof. Geoffrey Bekunda, and Prof. Charles Twesigye from Kyambogo's Biology department.
