The Kinawata-Mbuya Road has been sealed off and traffic diverted to Jinja Road while the Bugolobi -Mbuya Road traffic has been diverted to Ismail Road.

Traffic was diverted in the early Wednesday morning hours.

According to police, the measure is to ensure security and safety prior to, during and after Besigye's appearance in court.

Security deployment

Over 200 Police officers, Military and plain-clothed operatives are deployed along Spear-Motors- Nakawa-Bugolobi and along Port-Bell Road.

Plain-clothed operatives and uniformed Police officers are also deployed in trading centres of Nakawa division.

Cameras

Two Police mobile communication and surveillance vans fitted with long range visual cameras are stationed at two points (Nakawa and Bugolobi) as security officers keenly monitor business in Nakawa division.

Besigye charged

On Wednesday May 11, Besigye was arrested in Kampala by the Police and taken to Moroto Police Station where he was detained for two days.

He was later arraigned before Moroto Magistrates' Court where he was charged with treason in connection to a circulated video showing him taking an oath as the President of Uganda.

Besigye was on Monday transferred to Luzira Prison where he is currently remanded. His file was also transferred from Moroto court to Nakawa Chief Magistrates' Court.

Reports on Tuesday indicated that the Nakawa court had issued a production warrant for Besigye to be produced before it today.

Kasangati production warrant

As Kasangati Magistrates' Court was issuing a production warrant to the Prisons authorities instructing them to produce Col. Kizza Besigye in court on June 17, to answer the charges of disobeying lawful orders,

The hearing of the case against Besigye was due to continue at Kasangati Court before Grade One Magistrate Freddy Egesa Achoka but FDC presidential candidate and his lawyers did not show up in court.

Principal state attorney Joseph Kyomuhendo said: "I am reliably informed that he is on remand at Luzira over another case. I will apply for a production warrant for him," Kyomuhendo said.

He also asked for a long-term adjournment of one month to enable the State serve the authorities at Luzira with the production warrant.

This prompted the magistrate to adjourn the case to June 17, when the prison authorities will produce him. Prosecution alleges that Besigye and others still at large on April 5, 2016 between Kasangati and Mulago roundabout in Kampala wilfully disobeyed Samuel Bamuzibire, a Police officer who was lawfully charged with the execution of his duty when Besigye with his convoy from Kasangati disrespected orders issued by him.
