Lyantonde EC boss under fire for mismanaging sh8m

New Vision has learned that each parish supervisor was allocated 300,000 shillings but the money did not reach them, sparking off a protest.

Hannington Mugasira, the Lyantonde Electoral Commission Registrar, has come under fire over sh8m that has reportdely gone missing.

Through the Electoral Commission, the Ministry of Internal Affairs released said money to pay the allowances of 27 parish supervisors in Lyantonde district for the last general election exercise.

New Vision has learned that each parish supervisor was allocated 300,000 shillings but the money did not reach them, sparking off a protest.

Some of the affected supervisors include Ibrahim Ssonko (Kyakuterekera parish), Alex Barigye (Kiyinda parish), Billy Turyasingura (Lyantonde rural), John Asiimwe (Kabatema) and Matia Mugerwa (Kalagala parish).

Others are Juliet Kyomuhangi (Wabusana), Lillian Mpirirwe (Kaliiro ward), Rogers Mugisha (Namutamba) and Molly Kakwini (Kagala) among others.

Last week, they stormed Mugasira's office in Lyantonde town demanding for an explanation over the unpaid allowances.

A joint meeting between Mugasira and the supervisors did not end well since all parties failed to reach an amicable agreement.

According to Alex Barigye, Mugasira had promised to pay them shortly after the exercise last year but later refused to honour his pledge. He further explained that they wrote to him several times demanding for their money but he chose to ignore them yet they used their own money in the whole exercise.
