Last year it was stripped of the hosting rights

This year's edition of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games gets underway this Sunday at Kabalega SS in Masindi district.

The over 3000 participants from the best schools in every district in Uganda, start converging at the Albertine region-based school starting Friday.

According to host head teacher Fred Kugonza, the school has prepared well enough ahead of the event.

"We have done the biggest part of the preparations so far and we hope for a successful event," Kugonza said.

Last year, Kabalega was stripped of the hosting rights for failure to raise the minimum standards of a hosting venue and Ntare School in Mbarara came in to host the event.

"We have completed three all-weather Basketball courts and there are enough pitches for football, Hockey and Rugby," Kugonza said.

The Ball Games incorporate schools' sports discipline of Girls football, Basketball, Hockey, Rugby 15s, and racket games of Badminton, Table Tennis and Lawn tennis.

The weeklong event is expected to tip off on Sunday with an official opening ceremony at Kabalega SS.
