Chris Mubiru cleared of sodomy

Justice Wilson Musalu Musene on Tuesday released Mubiru on grounds that the trial magistrate erred when he considered evidence from a video which had not been tendered in court.

 

A one-time former Uganda Cranes manager, Christopher Mubiru Kisingiri has been acquitted on charges of having carnal knowledge against the order of nature.

Justice Wilson Musalu Musene on Tuesday released Mubiru on grounds that the trial magistrate erred when he considered evidence from a video which had not been tendered in court.

"I quash the conviction, set aside the sentence and orders of the lower court," "Musene ruled.

The judgment was passed in the presence of Mubiru's lawyer Ronald Serunjogi, Anthony Kaweesi and senior state Attorney Sharifa Naluwanga.

On September 8, 2015 Mubiru, also the former Club Villa manager was convicted of having carnal knowledge on Emmanuel Nyanzi against the order of nature by the then Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate, Flavia Nabakooza.

The magistrate then sentenced Mubiru to 10-years-imprisonment and ordered him to pay the victim sh50m in compensation.
