WOBULENZI - Residents of Wobulenzi town in Luweero District Thursday morning woke up to a grisly sight of charred bodies of two children aged four and one year.

The spine chilling incident took place at around 6.00 am in Wampamba zone of Wobulenzi town, located 42 kms along the Kampala Gulu highway.

The mother, Harriet Nassaka is said to have been away after locking the two kids inside the one-roomed house.

Wobulenzi police station boss Vian Birungi, who was among the first people to reach the scene after being alerted by residents, said by the time the police arrived the kids had been burnt beyond recognition, while the household property that was inside had been reduced to ashes.

Birungi identified the dead minors as: Fred Mayanja, a one-year old boy and his sister Felicita Mayanja.

The charred bodies were taken to Kasana health center IV  mortuary for a postmortem.

An LC3 councilor, Sekayombya Kitokota, who resides in the neighborhood, said residents got concerned when they saw a thick smoke emanating from the one-roomed house, later progressing into flames.

Kitokota said the residents struggled to force the door open, but by the time they managed to, it was too late.
