"Ugandan film has been recognised, we just have to build on this and not despair."
LAGOS - Uganda is still to win big at Africa's biggest film awards as we walked away empty-handed at the 4th Africa Magic Viewers' choice awards in Lagos.
In spite of getting a record four nominations, Uganda film maker Joseph Ken Ssebaggala did not win any of the categories his film was nominated for.
"It's a big disappointment of course, I expected to win at least the Best East African Movie category," a stoic Ssebaggala (pictured below) said afterwards.
"But I guess my people didn't vote enough. But there are still positives to get from this. Ugandan film has been recognised, we just have to build on this and not despair."
Ssebaggala added: "Steven Spielberg was ignored by Hollywood for years, and Leornado DiCaprio just won his first Oscar after 20 years of nominations. We just have to hang in there."
Nigeria's Stephanie Luis' film Dry won Best Film Overall.
