Jackson Mayanja under pressure at Simba SC

Mayanja replaced Maltese-born English coach, Dylan Kerr early last month and Simba had gone six matches unbeaten since then.

Ugandan coach Jackson Mayanja suffered his first loss with Simba SC in the Tanzanian Premier League on Saturday triggering questions on how long the impatient club officials can tolerate him.

Mayanja replaced Maltese-born English coach, Dylan Kerr early last month and Simba had gone six matches unbeaten since then.

But on Saturday his 10-man side went down 2-0 to rivals Young Africa football club and the loss has seen Simba SC drop from the top of the 16 team table to the third place with a point less than Young Africa (46points) but level with second placed Azam FC.

The drop appears to have exerted some pressure on Mayanja whose job as an interim head coach is dependent on his performance.

He had told the press in Tanzania prior to the match that his target was to pick maximum points from their traditional rival for Simba to be favourites to win the league.

"We have played well lately. We have won all matches but we have to keep working. Nothing has been achieved yet. Victory against Yanga will make us favourites (to win the league)," Mayanja had said.

Simba SC's central defender Abdi Banda was dismissed 25 minutes to go. Mayanja and Simba SC fans had a lot of hope in dependable striker Hamis Kiiza but convert chances.
