Uganda Cup: New Vision travel to Friends of Soccer

It will be the first ever meeting between New Vision and Friends of Soccer – and for the former, it will be their first game outside Kampala.

After reaching the round of 64, Uganda Cup debutants New Vision want to take it a notch higher.

But to make it to the last 32 of the 42nd edition of the tournament, they have to brush aside Friends of Soccer, whom they play on Saturday in Kasese.

New Vision had an impressive start only to be knocked out by Future Stars at Nakivubo Stadium.

But they were lucky to be recalled to the competition after some districts failed to send in their teams. Now the players want to prove themselves.

"Luck was just on our side so we have to use this chance given to prove we are worth being called back" said midfielder Moses Kigongo.

"We lacked finishing and concentration in the last quarter."

It will be the first ever meeting between New Vision and Friends of Soccer - and for the former, it will be their first game outside Kampala.

So the question stands: How will they cope with climate of Kasese.

Meanwhile, team manager Kato Kawuma has placed emphasis on goal scoring, since it is the lack of goals that saw they dumped out earlier.

"We also hope to add new experienced players who were not present in our first two fixtures," he said.

"Fred Kyambadde will be influential if we happen to add him to the team to push for goals against Friends of Soccer."

Ahead of the tie, New Vision had training on Wednesday in Kampala at the City High School pitch.

"All players are in good condition and fit to play for the team. We are only looking forward for victory in Saturday's game," said coach Abdallah Mubiru.

Friends of Soccer manager Yasin Mwesige says they are ready to knock out any team from Kampala.

"We have four-time experience in the Uganda Cup and we were dropped out by KCCA FC last season in Kampala. We have so far produced many good players to the national level - the likes of Keziron Kizito and his brother in the U17, Kikonyogo."

"The better - and luckier - team will go with victory at the end of the day."

Holders SC Villa will travel to Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku to play Kampala Future Stars FC.
