Eight cheat death as lorry rams into commercial building

The driver did all that he could to control the truck but the slope was steep and we ended up ramming into a building which saved us also

KIBAALE - At least eight people narrowly cheated death when a lorry rammed into a commercial building where they were sitting.

The incident occurred at Mugarama trading center in Kibaale district when a truck Reg. number UAP 663T was descending a steep slope and the brake system failed.

According to Samuel Ninzigimaana, the turnman of the truck, the driver tried to engage gears but all in vain.

"The driver did all that he could to control the truck but the slope was steep and we ended up ramming into a building which saved us also," said Ninzigimaana.

John Matovu, an eyewitness, told New Vision that the lorry all of a sudden crossed the Kibaale Kagadi road at a high speed and rammed into the building.

"We were seated across the road and we saw the truck cross the road a high speed and rammed into the building," said Matovu.

Joan Asiimwe, one of the survivors said that they just heard a loud bang and rushed out of the building for their safety.

"We heard a loud bang all of a sudden and we thought something wrong had happened and we rushed out of the building," said Asiimwe.

She said that luckily enough the truck got stuck at the of the building leaving them free of any injury.

Silvester Kabaho, a traffic officer attached to Kagadi police station said that police was investigating the cause of the accident.

The truck was later removed from the building using a breakdown on Monday.
