Only two out of ten people in Uganda wash their hands
Many people know that they should wash their hands but they do not actually do it. Experts argue that this is one reason why Uganda has not gotten rid of diseases such as diarrhoea and acute respiratory diseases, among others. According to Prakash Raj Lamsal, a water, sanitation and hygiene (WaSH) specialist at UNICEF, the majority of children die from diarrhoea. “The under-five mortality rate in Uganda is 90 per 1,000 live births. It translates into 327 under-five children dying every day in Uganda. Out of this, 10% (33 children) die from diarrhoea,” Prakash explains.
