President mourns `aunt' in the struggle; "Maama Etap was selfless"

President Museveni has mourned his aunt in the struggle for freedom, Maama Mary Ogwal Etap from Dokolo, saying although she did not have any formal education, she managed to be part of the people who liberated this country from bad regimes.
 

He described the late Ogwal as a selfless person who despite not having her own biological children, was always helpful to people and neighbouring communities in her work.

He pledged to support her family members and urged the people of Lango and Uganda to emulate her passion by helping those who cannot help themselves.
 

Maama Etap was a strong ally of FRONASA fighters while in exile in Tanzania and a strong movement supporter and mobilizer.

She died on April 24, 2014 aged 100 years and was buried at her ancestral village at Abienek in Dokolo District.
 

Speaking during the burial ceremony, President Museveni described the late Ogwal as a very kind and helpful person and urged her relatives to emulate her best examples.

Rev. Richard Opio Atoo of Dokolo vicarage during his sermon, described the late Maama Ogwal as somebody of high integrity with a God given kind heart.
 

The cultural leader of Lango, His Highness Yosamu Odul, thanked the President for his support towards development of Lango sub region and asked the people not to forget him.

Esau Odong a family representative said the late donated a piece of land for building St Mary’s Church of Uganda in Dokolo.
