Soul Orchestra Afrika in drive in nurture young talent

Soul Orchestra Afrika has embarked on a fundraising drive to see that budding young musicians get more musical instruments to be able to develop their musical talents.

But to realize that, the music group will have to purchase a number musical instruments.

During Christmas celebrations at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe on Boxing Day, the group’s fundraising drive saw sh2.2m collected of the required sh10m.

“We need to buy a number of instruments to enable us produce better music,” said Daniel Kalule, the group’s managing director

“Last year’s contribution went into buying two guitars and we believe that this year’s contribution will equip us with more instruments,” he said.

Soul Orchestra Afrika plays classical, contemporary, jazz, African fusions and pop music "live" for the nourishment of the "soul".

They have performances today (Saturday) and Sunday at St. Stephen’s Church Kisugu and St. Andrews Bukoto, respectively.

Formed in 2008 with only four musicians who shared a common vision of developing live music performance, the group now has over 40 talented youngsters who play different instruments.

They use violins, trumpets, flutes, clarinets, horns, guitars, drum kit, pianos and more.

The musicians help other upcoming youth develop their talent by training them. What they need presently in order to realize their bigger vision are more instruments.
