After winning a major tourney in Singapore this month, the national netball team has turned its focus on the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar slated for next month.

After winning the six nations invitational tournament in Singapore this month, the national netball team has turned its focus on the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar slated for next month.

The Uganda netball Federation (UNF) has summoned 18 players for non-residential training at Nakivubo stadium with NIC Coach Vincent Kiwanuka as the head coach.

According to Annet Kisomose, the UNF secretary, the team that resumed training on Thursday will depart by road for Zanzibar on January 5.

They are expected to reach the east African island nation a day later ahead of the tournament scheduled to take place from January 8 until 12.

“Our major challenge is finance, so the team has to travel by road,” said Kisomose.

Players summoned include Peace Proscovia, Flavia Nakanwagi, Joan Ameo (UCU), Abalo Christine, Namuwaya Muhawe, Lukia Meeme, Irene Desire Mirembe, Elizabeth Atonet and Suzan Mukala (Nkumba University).

Others are Getrude Agibiru, Sharifah Nalukenge, Florence Nanyonga and Josephine Nakalema (Kampala International University),Flavia Nalule,Irene Akello,Cissy Nalubega,Martha Soigi Halima Nakachwa (Kampala International University).
