GEOFFREY Kusuro inspired Team Uganda to the Africa Mountain running championships in Obudu, Nigeria on Saturday.

Despite finishing third in the Obudu Race, Kusuro was crowned champion in the Africa competition because the top two athletes in Kenya’s Philemon Rono and Ethiopia’s Abebe Dinkesa were guest runners.

Kusuro, Philip Kiplimo and Solomon Mutai combined to earn Team Uganda an aggregate of seven, eight better than Team Kenya.

The team that had the least aggregate emerged winners.

Meanwhile, the organising committee of the Africa University Cross Country Championship due on Sunday at Entebbe Golf Club has extended the registration deadline for the event to allow more universities join the competition.

“We have decided to extend the deadline to Thursday to allow more teams join,” committee head Hannington Musoke disclosed yesterday.

“We are expecting three Universities from South Africa, Congo, Kenya and others from Uganda.”
