After making their mark in the music industry, Nigerian R&B duo P-Square are in for big honours at the impending 2013 Channel O Africa Music Video Awards.

At the awards ceremony scheduled to take place on Saturday November 30 at the Walter Sisulu Square in Soweto, South Africa, P-Square will be honoured with the highly coveted Special Recognition Award.

Their recognition puts them up on a pedestal with a few African music greats who have received the same honours.

These include 2012 winner Oscar “Oskido” Mdlongwa, a music veteran from South Africa; Nigeria’s Koko Master D’Banj, who won it in 2011; Somalian born K’NAAN (2010); South African Brenda Fassie (2009), and Ghana’s George Lee (2008).

Peter and Paul Okoye, the identical twin brothers who make up P-Square, have had a significant artistic contribution to music, along the way helping place African music and its artistes on the international stage.

Their universal sound and electrifying stagecraft are some of the X-Factors they have used to transcend cultural and ethnic differences with a unique brand of music.

P-Square first showed up on the music scene in 2003 with their debut album, Last Nite. Just like that, the album turned them into something of a marvel.

Their subsequent one, Get Squared (2005), filled up radio and television charts in and outside Nigeria.

Game Over, their third album released in 2007, just showed that P-Square were here to stay. Those who remember the hit Do Me know exactly what “here to stay” means.

The year 2009 saw Danger, their fourth offering, hit the waves and shelves. By the year 2011, this dynamic duo released their fifth album titled The Invasion, which includes the hit single Beautiful Oyinye, featuring American rapper, Rick Ross.

It was about this time that everyone out there bowed for P-Square, as Rick Ross is no cheap shot.

The duo’s 21st century music exploits have seen them amass well over 16 international music awards, including 5 Channel O Africa Music Video Awards, making them undisputed ambassadors of African music.

To witness the duo get honoured at the glamourous 10th Annual Channel O Africa Music Video Awards in Soweto, you will have to keep your TV tuned into Channel O on DStv Channel 320, GOtv Channel 70 and on DStv Mobile.
