TWO people were on Monday morning killed in Mityana in two separate incidences.

The first incidence occurred at Sserunyonyi village in Kalangalo Sub County, Mityana district, where a 45 year prominent farmer was hacked to death by unknown assailants.

Mityana district police commander Henry Kintu identified the deceased as Byarugaba Kateregga, a resident of Sserunyonyi.

Kateregga according to Kintu was attacked in the early hours of Monday morning from his garden where he was hiding.

“We have learnt that for the past few weeks, he had sensed that some people were following him and wanted to kill him. So, for some days, he would hide in the garden or bush due to fear for his life and this is where they found him,” Kintu said.

The deceased was cut several times and his body was abandoned in the garden, where the relatives discovered it.

Kintu said according to their investigations that the deceased had wrangles with his neighbour Kaibanda Kababu, whom he accused of killing his brother, only identified as Ssempijja.

“We are told that Kaibanda once declared in a village meeting that he would kill Kateregga, revenging for having killed Ssempijja, and this is what he might have done,” he said.

Police removed the body of the deceased and took it to Mityana Hospital mortuary.

Some of the residents who spoke to New Vision said the two families had differences developing from witchcraft practices, as each family was accusing the other of bewitching them.

In similar incident, an unidentified person was killed in Mityana town, in a foiled robbery.

Police said they suspect that the deceased was killed by private security guards, who suspected him to be a thief.

Kintu said they are hunting for the guards. The body of the deceased was also taken to Mityana hospital mortuary.
