After waiting for five months for the former Executive Secretary of National Drug Authority( NDA), Dr. Gordon Sematiko, to  hand over office following  his termination, the Board of Governors of NDA has forcefully opened it.

Addressing  the press at  NDA head offices in Wandegeya  on Wednesday,  the chairman NDA board, Dr. Sam Zaramba,  said that  the board  has called Dr. Gordon Sematiko on many occasions to hand over office but he has paid a deaf hear.

“The Executive Secretary’s office has crucial documents of NDA  land titles  all over the country. The organization’s official seal  and  files that contain NDA staff contracts of which many have expired and need renewal or termination.

We have forcefully opened this office  in the presence of the DPC Wandegeya Police station, Brian Ampirwe, who has recorded everything that  was in this office and if we find that there are some documents missing that we need to help in  running the organization smoothly, we will have to use other forceful means to get them from Dr. Sematiko” said Dr. Zaramba

He  said that Kate Kikule is acting Executive director while David Nahamya deputises her but the process of recruiting a new  NDA Executive Secretary is ongoing and interviews to this cause will soon be announced.

This follows the termination of Dr. Gordon Sematiko’s services as  Executive secretary of NDA in February this year  following reports that he opened an account in Orient Bank  on which he  deposited US$5m from the official account of NDA in Standard Charted bank without the board's knowledge, an act that wasn’t acceptable according to NDA regulations.
