DOMESTIC darts lovers and their counterparts from the rest of East African region are expected to focus their attention to Kampala on Friday as the city is slated to host the Uganda International Darts Open Championship.

Uganda Darts Association (UDA) has organized the tournament in its continuous efforts to revive and promote the sport at domestic level, apart from fostering better relations among darts players in the region.

However, Ugandan players are determined to put up a spirited performance in the coming tournament to be held at Platinum Royale Hotel in Busega, a Kampala suburb.

The two-day championship that is expected starts on Friday will attract a number of national teams and clubs from the East African region like Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda. Over 100 players are expected to battle it out at the event.

The championship will involve singles, doubles and team game and plenty of prizes have been set aside for winners of the tournament.

The Inspector of Prisons, Patrick Akena, who will be one of the participants in the tournament urged Uganda dart players to continue training intensively for the championship so that all prizes remain in Uganda.

“Our eyes will be on the top prize and this can only be achieved through intensive training and early preparation for the tournament,” Akena added.
