KIBOGA - "We shall prove to Amama Mbabazi that we belong to Museveni; it is his constitutional right to contest for presidency, but humiliation awaits him," government chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa has said.

Nankabirwa, who is the Kiboga NRM party chairperson, is traversing the district addressing party delegates at the sub-county level on the (NRM) party’s election roadmap.

She has already briefed the members in Kibiga, Kapeke, Muwanga, Lwamata and Kiboga town council.

“Mbabazi has nothing to accuse Museveni of; he has since held all positions of influence including Prime Minister’s, sometimes chairing cabinet meetings even if it was out of order because it is the Vce President mandated by law to do so.

"Therefore he instead has a lot to explain to Ugandans," said Nankabirwa.

This comes after ex-Prime Minister and ex-NRM secretary general Mbabazi declared his bid to contest against President Yoweri Museveni for the NRM party chairman position and subsequently party flagbearer for the 2016 general elections.

However President Museveni has since described the move as premature and encored that his former ally owed Ugandans explanations.

Nankabirwa joins other NRM bigshots such as NRM party vice chairperson, Moses Kigongo; central Uganda party chairperson, Abdul Nadduli; NRM general secretary, Kasule Lumumba and others in brushing off Mbabazi’s intentions.

“As Kiboga you know Museveni is our own because even during the bush war we were with him, we fed and hid him in our houses.

"At no time shall we abandon him because it would be betrayal to those who shed blood to liberate this country,” Nankabirwa said.

'Go slow'

Kiboga district hosted this year’s Heroes' Day national celebrations in Dwaniro sub-county, an occasion President Museveni used to describe the area as a holy ground for the NRA war and today’s NRM government because of the successful wars fought in the area.

Nankabirwa warned the party members in the district against Mbabazi money.

“I hear that some of you are bracing for Mbabazi’s money because you think he has a lot of it; but go slow my friends, you will land into problems."

She urged party members to remain united now that the party chairperson has got a challenger to the post.

Nankabirwa also called on the party members to adhere to the rules in the party constitution to ensure peaceful party elections than it was in 2010 which saw confusion divide party members.

The Kiboga district LC5 chairperson, Israel Yiga, said that as Kiboga they supported the Kyankwanzi NRM caucus resolution of Museveni as the party sole candidate and that they are not ready to change their stance.

In all the conferences so far, the members have agreed to support President Museveni as the party candidate for presidency.
