AYATOU Sempijja’s well taken penalty in the 38th minute helped Buganda defeat Western 1-0 and become the first team to qualify for the MTN FUFA Inter region Championship semi-finals.
Buganda advanced after getting maximum points in Group A at the Boma ground in Hoima. Buganda got six points after beating North East 1-0 earlier on.
Western had missed a penalty in the 5th minute of the first half before a cheering crowd.
A visibly excited Buganda coach Edward Golola told New Vision Sport that his focus now is a win against the defending champions Eastern region today to top the group.
“We don’t want to falter in this game so that we top the group and face the second-placed team elsewhere,” Golola remarked.
“Second-placed teams are not all that tougher compared to group winners and from there, I can plan for the final.”
“All my thoughts are on reaching the final, then from there, I can plan to win the trophy.”
In the other game played earlier in the day, Northern region and West Nile settled for a 1-all draw.
Action will continue with three more games today. Western will take on their North East rivals in one of the matches.
