Former champions and title favourites, Prisons handball team almost had their day ruined after they landed a narrow victory against defending champions Nkumba University Tornados over the weekend at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Former champions and title favourites, Prisons handball team almost had their day ruined after they landed a narrow victory against defending champions Nkumba University Tornados over the weekend at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Jesca Achan put the wardresses in the lead as she scored the winning goals a minute to the final whistle that saw Prisons beat Nkumba 33-31 to cement the women’s table lead position in the National Handball League.
Besides netting 7 goals earlier in the mouthwatering encounter, Achan added two more goals in the dying minute while others Halima Nakachwa, Lillian Ajio and Florence Nanyonga jointly added 24 goals for the victors.
Meanwhile Stella Akongo, Irene Merembe and Muhyimina Namuwaya jointly netted Nkumba’s consolation goals.
In the men’s category, students side Kakungulu Memorial gave champions Prison Spears a hard ran to victory in a game that ended 38-26 at the same venue.
Others Police Metro also beat Prison Arrows 32-25 to stay in the title bracket with 10 points at par with table leaders Prison Spears.
While Prisons Arrows beat Police Kifaru 29-18 before UPDF walloped winless side Ever Green 49-22.
