Over 200 people participated in a run organised by Bunyoro Kingdom on Saturday as one of the early activities to mark the 21st coronation anniversary of Omukama Solomon Iguru.

The coronation anniversary to be held under the theme, “Bunyoro Kitara kingdom united for cultural, economic and social development” is scheduled for June 11 in Hoima town.

The 7km race was flagged off by the Omukama at Karuziika palace in Hoima town. Proceeds from the run will go towards the construction of a perimeter wall around the king’s palace. The Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura who was supposed to be the chief runner, was represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police Assuman Mugenyi.

Mugenyi urged the people to always participate in such events to improve on their physical fitness and also interact for unity.

“Such events raise funds for the underprivileged and also make us break ranks to interact freely and build unity which is what we need as a country,” he added.

Kayihura also sent a donation of 700 assorted T-shirts for the runners and sh5m towards the Empango celebrations.
