Why is my wife missing her periods?

Jul 03, 2013

My 22-year-old wife had miscarriage at three months on November 5, 2012 and the doctors told us that it was due to malaria. After the miscarriage, she had her next period on December 10, 2012 and the subsequent one on March 9, 2013.

QDear Doctor,
My 22-year-old wife had miscarriage at three months on November 5, 2012 and the doctors told us that it was due to malaria. After the miscarriage, she had her next period on December 10, 2012 and the subsequent one on March 9, 2013.

However, she has since consistently missed her menstrual periods, yet pregnancy tests show that she is not pregnant. Is this really normal? We are trying to have a baby, how this be solved?

ADear Anonymous,
Malaria is a common cause of spontaneous miscarriages. It is also normal for menstruation to resume within six to eight weeks after the miscarriage. Your wife has irregular menstruation, which usually results from failure to ovulate regularly.

If a woman ovulates regularly, menstruation also occurs regularly. An imbalance in the regulation of hormones that control ovulation a menstruation is usually the problem.

Your wife is still a young woman and this problem is temporary and easy to correct. Consult your gynaecologist.
