Rally driver Wilbert Pole Pole is the latest to declare intentions of winning this year’s national rally championship (NRC) title after Arthur Blick Jr. did so early this year.

Pole Pole disclosed this on Wednesday at a press briefing after signing a sh8.5m sponsorship package with microfinance company UGAFODE at its offices in Wandegeya.

He said that the sponsorship is going to help him concentrate as he will have no pressures of fuel, service van and entry fee in all the remaining competitions.

“I’m extremely excited with the package I have received and I can assure you that this sponsorship has boosted me,” Pole Pole stated.

“The current table leader (Blick) is leading me with 70 points and those can be recovered in one event or two,” Pole Pole added with confidence.

He also added that he will upgrade from the current Subaru N6 to a more powerful car Mitsubishi Evo8 that will help him battle his challengers who have powerful cars like Subaru N16, N10 and Mitsubishi Evo 9 respectively.

UGAFODE chief executive officer Wilson Twamuhabwa said that supporting Pole Pole is one way of giving back to the community that supports them.

“We are glad to see that we are giving back to the community,” Twamuhabwa stated.

“As an institution we are glad that Pole Pole is our ambassador and we are part of the team that will stand by him as he fulfills his dream of becoming a champion,” he added.

He also appealed to other corporates to support sports in the country as a way of promoting tourism.
