CECAFA Chairman Leodegar Tenga has retained his office at Confederation of African Football (CAF) despite his failure to stage the region’s biggest football competition –the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, last year.

The Tanzanian will serve another four year term as Executive Committee member of CAF’s Central-East Zone comprising Uganda, Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania, South Sudan and Sudan.

Tenga was re-elected unopposed at the 37th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday after Djibouti’s Hassan Souleiman Waberi withdrew his candidature.

All the 12 CECAFA member countries attended the annual assembly on Monday and Tuesday and described Tenga’s leadership as bold and steadfast.

During the same CECAFA congress, member associations reaffirmed their commitment to supporting FIFA President Sepp Blatter ahead of FIFA's congress in Zurich on May 28-29th. CECAFA members first pledged to support Blatter while at the FIFA Congress in Brazil last year.
